MARYLAND STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE A DOUBLE-FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH IN WICOMICO COUNTY
Wicomico County, MD - According to the Maryland State Police, a fatal two-vehicle collision left two victims dead and more injured in Wicomico County. An immediate and ongoing investigation is underway.
The horrifying accident, which unfolded in the early hours before 2:50 a.m., involved a 2013 Dodge Durango and a 2016 Subaru Impreza. Troopers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack were dispatched to the scene after a report concerning a head-on crash on the southbound US Route 13, south of St. Luke's Road in Wicomico County, Maryland.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the Dodge Durango, driven by 59-year-old Jay Richard Bynum from Seaford, Delaware, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when he crashed into the Subaru Impreza.
Tragically, the driver of the Subaru, 21-year-old Dean Alexander Dennison, and passenger, 20-year-old Sierra Rain Merchant, both from New York, were declared deceased at the scene. A 1-year-old child, a little boy, who was in the vehicle with Dennison and Merchant, was transported to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital due to the injuries sustained in the incident.
Bynum himself also suffered serious injuries, severe enough to necessitate a medivac by a Maryland State Police helicopter (Trooper 4) to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office has been consulted regarding the incident, with charges pending against Jay Richard Bynum.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team leads the investigation, and the case remains active.
Update 5:00 PM - The Maryland State Police have notified us that the third occupant in the vehicle, 1 year old Grayson A. Dennison, has been declared deceased at the hospital.
