MARYLAND STATE POLICE CHARGE MAN IN FATAL TWO-VEHICLE CRASH IN WICOMICO COUNTY
Salisbury, MD - Maryland State Police have confirmed the charges against Delaware resident Jay Richard Bynum, 59, following a fatal car crash last month.
Bynum is facing a slew of charges, including three counts of negligent manslaughter by auto, three counts of criminal negligent manslaughter by vehicle, three counts of negligent auto homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence, three counts of homicide by motor vehicle while impaired, driving under the influence and driving while intoxicated.
Additionally, he is being held without bond on his pending charges.
The tragic incident took place on May 19, 2024, at approximately 2:50 a.m. During the incident, Bynum was driving a 2013 Dodge Durango the wrong direction on US Route 13, south of St. Luke's Road, and collided head-on with a Subaru Impreza. Dean Alexander Dennison, 21, and Sierra Rain Merchant, 20, were New York residents who were in the Subaru and were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Their 1-year-old child, Grayson Dennison, was also critically injured in the crash and later succumbed to his injuries at Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital. Bynum was airlifted to the R.A. Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore to treat his injuries.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is heading the ongoing investigation, and the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office is closely involved in the case.
