MARYLAND STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A WEEKEND FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN WORCESTER COUNTY
Whaleyville, MD - Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday evening in Worcester County, Maryland. The Maryland State Police have identified the deceased as Jason Irizarry, 40, of Dover, Pennsylvania. He was the operator of a BMW motorcycle involved in the crash.
Jason Irizarry was transported by ambulance to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional and later transported to ChristianaCare Christiana Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The operator of another BMW motorcycle involved in the crash, identified as Andrew Strube, 49, of Columbia, Pennsylvania, was also transported by ambulance to TidalHealth for treatment of his injuries.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, during Delmarva Bike Week, troopers from the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack were dispatched to the area of westbound U.S. Route 50 at Hall Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash involving two motorcycles.
According to a preliminary investigation, a BMW motorcycle, operated by Irizarry, was passing a vehicle while on Route 50 when, for unknown reasons, it lost control and struck a guardrail. This subsequently caused another BMW motorcycle, traveling with Irizarry and operated by Strube, to lose control.
All lanes on Route 50 were closed for approximately four hours for the crash investigation. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Berlin Barrack at 410-641-3101. The crash investigation remains active and ongoing.
