MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING A CHECK ON THE WELFARE IN MILFORD DELAWARE
Milford, DE - On December 19, 2024, a routine investigation by a Milford Police Officer took an unexpected turn, resulting in the arrest of Edward Collins, a 59-year-old resident of Milford, Delaware.
The incident occurred around 9:42 a.m. at Royal Farms, located in the 500 block of S. DuPont Blvd in Milford, Delaware. The officer observed Collins standing at the driver's door of a truck, leaning suspiciously over the driver's seat.
Concerned for his well-being, the officer approached Collins for a welfare check. Upon further inspection, it was determined that Collins was under the influence of drugs.
The officer conducted a consent search of the vehicle, during which a loaded handgun was discovered hidden under the driver's seat. The investigation revealed that the handgun had been reported stolen in 2015.
This discovery raised serious concerns because Collins was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.
As a result, Collins faces multiple charges, including carrying and possessing a concealed deadly weapon, receiving a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm while under the influence, consuming a controlled substance without a prescription, and driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs.
Following his arrest, Collins was presented before Justice of the Peace Court 2, where the court set a cash bail of $25,700 and placed him on an intoxication hold.
He was subsequently transferred to the Department of Correction. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to ensure community safety and their commitment to upholding justice.
