LEIGHTON AND REBECCA MOORE TO SERVE AS GRAND MARSHALS OF ST PATRICKS DAY PARADE IN OCEAN CITY
Ocean City, MD - The streets of Ocean City will be shades of green on Saturday, March 16th, as the city welcomes back the largest St. Patrick's Parade in the State of Maryland, sponsored by the Delmarva Irish American Club (DIAC).
Since its inaugural parade in 1980, the DIAC has donated over $550,000 from parade proceeds to scholarships for local high school students and various charities. Notably, the DIAC was able to donate $50,000 to the Macky and Pam Stansell House at Coastal Hospice.
This year's parade grand marshals, Rebecca and Leighton Moore, are local stalwarts known for their philanthropic efforts and charity work in the community. Rebecca and Leighton Moore, owners of Seacrets, have been members of the Delmarva Irish American Club and have participated in the parade for many years.
Rebecca and Leighton say it is an incredible honor to be chosen as grand marshals of the Ocean City St. Patrick's Parade and to represent our community in the biggest parade on the Eastern Shore.
The procession commences at noon, kick-starting a jubilant march from Coastal Highway at 57th Street down to the 45th Street Shopping Center, where the judges will be eagerly awaiting the array of high school bands, pipe and drum bands, floats, and marching units.
The Irish festival following the parade will feature live music from the Pat O'Brennan Trio, alongside Irish dancers and a bevy of Irish souvenirs, adding to the lively atmosphere. The festival is free admission and will run from 11 a.m. til 3 p.m.
In memory of long-standing DIAC members John Staley and Dean Langrall, this year's parade promises to be a vibrant tribute. This year's parade will be live-streamed by UnScene Productions and details will be shared on the DIAC Facebook page.
The DIAC was founded in 1980 with an initial 75 members and has now grown to a robust community of almost 300 members. The club warmly welcomes anyone who is Irish, of Irish descent or simply has an affinity for Irish culture.
