LAUREL SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT ARRESTED FOR DUI
Laurel, DE - On May 11, 2024 at approximately 11:33pm, a Laurel Police Department officer was conducting a traffic stop in the area of Sussex Highway and Camp Road in Laurel. The officer was operating a fully-marked patrol car with emergency lights activated on the right shoulder of the roadway. A second officer was parked nearby to assist. During the initial traffic stop, officers observed a red Ford F150 traveling Northbound in the right lane of Sussex Highway. The F150 drove past the traffic stop in the right lane without slowing down or moving over to the next available lane as required by law. The second officer observed the violation and entered the roadway to catch up to the F150. Once behind the F150, the officer observed the truck failing to maintain a single lane. Specifically, the arrest report documents the F150 driving almost entirely in the shoulder, swerving to the left highway lane, and back right over the shoulder "rumble strips". In addition to those violations, the vehicle's registration was expired. The officer conducted a traffic stop at that time. The driver was identified as Shawn C Larrimore (53) of Seaford, DE. During the traffic stop, the officer observed multiple indicators of alcohol impairment and initiated a DUI investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation, Larrimore was arrested for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. He refused a chemical test, and a blood sample was ultimately obtained via a search warrant. The test results are pending at this time. Larrimore was charged with the following offenses: -Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol -Fail to Move Over/Slow Down for Stopped Vehicle Displaying Warning Signal -Fail to Signal Continuously Before Turning -Fail to Remain Within a Single Lane -Expired Registration He was released to a sober party with a summons to appear at a future court appearance. The officer involved in this incident has received additional training in DUI Detection and Enforcement, and is a certified National Highway Traffic Safety Administration DUI/Field Sobriety Testing Instructor. The issuance of a summons for the arrest of a subject is merely a showing of probable cause by the investigating agency related to the above incident. The subject is considered to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
