LAUREL POLICE LOCATE DOC ESCAPEE AT HOLLYBROOK APARTMENTS
Laurel, DE- On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, a Laurel Police Department officer on routine patrol in the Hollybrook Apartments Complex, located on Pasture Lane in Laurel, Delaware, and witnessed a suspicious individual. The individual, later identified as Daniel J Stanley, was seen hiding behind buildings and attempting to conceal his identity.
In accordance with posted regulations prohibiting loitering and trespassing in the apartment complex, the officer approached Stanley. Stanley resisted officer instructions to identify himself, which is a requirement by law.
The situation escalated when the officer attempted to put handcuffs on the subject, which led to a foot pursuit, as Standley attempted to flee the location.
The pursuit went through the apartment complex, across Discount Land Road, and ended at Carvel Gardens Apartments. Another officer in the vicinity successfully intercepted Stanley and took him into custody without any further incident.
Post-arrest identification revealed Stanley to be an absconder from the Plummer Community Correction Center in Wilmington, Delaware, holding an active escape after conviction warrant - a Class D Felony, as issued by the Delaware Department of Correction. Stanley was transported to the Laurel Police Department and charged with Resisting Arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor.
Following arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 7, Stanley was issued a $5,000 cash-only bond for the escape after conviction charge. He was released on his recognizance for the new resisting arrest charge.
Stanley is currently held in the Sussex Correctional Institution pending a future court appearance. Stanley is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
