Wicomico County, MD - On June 6, 2024, the Honorable Matthew A. Maciarello, Associate Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, sentenced Kiowa West, age 41, of Cape May, New Jersey, to Forty (40) years of incarceration. West previously pleaded guilty on December 8, 2023, to Second-Degree Sexual Offense and Attempted Second-Degree Sexual Offense, and sentencing had been deferred pending completion of a mandatory pre-sentence investigation and mental health assessment.

Following his active sentence, West will be subject to Lifetime Sexual Offender Supervision and will be required to register as a Tier III Sexual Offender for life. For several years from 2011 to 2018, West sexually abused a minor child within his household. The victim was under the age of 13.

Wicomico County State's Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes said, "As the Judge noted at sentencing, these crimes are intolerable to our society and leave lasting mental and physical effects upon the survivors. Justice was done in this case due to the multi-disciplinary approach employed by the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center, the courage of the survivor, and the resolute sentence of the Court. I hope this resolution brings healing and closure to the survivor and her family."

SA Jamie L. Dykes commended members of the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center, Wicomico County Child Protective Services, and members of the New Jersey Department of Children and Families Division of Child Protection and Permanency for their work in the investigation. SA Dykes also commended Senior Assistant State's Attorney Michael Calabrese, who prosecuted the case and advocated for justice.
