KENNY VANSANT WAS SENTENCED TO LIFE PLUS 25 YEARS
Wicomico County, MD - On June 30, 2023, the Honorable Karen M. Dean, Associate Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, sentenced Kenny Vansant, 39 years of age, to Life plus twenty-five (25) years of incarceration.Vansant was convicted on February 14, 2023, after a two-day jury trial, of two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor, Sexual Offense in the Second Degree, Sexual Offense in the Third Degree, Sexual Offense in the Fourth Degree, and Assault in the Second Degree.In the summer of 2016, Vansant sexually abused a family member, who was under the age of 9 at the time. During the time Vansant perpetrated these crimes, he was on parole for a prior sexual offense committed against a child who was under the age of 7.Wicomico County State's Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes said, "This sexual predator has altered the lives of children in unspeakable ways. The survivor in this case exhibited unparalleled courage in reporting the abuse and testifying at trial. We hope that the survivor can find peace and solace in the knowledge that the Court's sentence to the maximum term permitted by law will ensure that this defendant will remain behind bars for the remainder of his life."SA Jamie L. Dykes commended Detective M. Rockwell of the Salisbury Police Department, who was the lead investigator, and Child Protective Services for their work in the investigation.
