JUVENILE CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH VANDALISM AND MDOP
OCEAN PINES, MD-A 15-year-old male has been charged by juvenile referral regarding a series of vandalism acts at the Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club in November 2024. The teenager, a resident of Ocean Pines, MD, is facing charges of malicious destruction of property (MDOP) and second-degree Assault.
The issue dates back to November 16, when the Ocean Pines Police Department received a report of vandalism at the public restrooms on the 15th hole of the Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club's golf course.
Upon investigation, it was found that the restrooms had been vandalized - toilet paper was wildly strewn across the interiors, and rocks littered the space. The gravity of the damage was such that both the men's and women's toilet tanks had to be replaced from the damage done by suspect or suspects.
The case took a significant turn on November 27, when another incident was reported involving juveniles throwing rocks at a Club employee performing maintenance on the course. Responding promptly, an Ocean Pines Police Officer found two juveniles fitting the suspects' description in the neighboring areas.
Further investigation confirmed that these were the culprits behind the recently reported incident and the restroom vandalism from November 16, 2024.
The parents of both juveniles were notified. While the 15-year-old will face charges and has been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services, the second juvenile will not be charged because of age limitations as per the existing Maryland State Juvenile Law.
