Fruitland, MD - On February 14, 2025, Jeremy Gentry received a life sentence, with all but twenty-five (25) years suspended, for the murder of his mother in Fruitland, Maryland. This ruling was issued by the Honorable Karen M. Dean, Associate Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County.

Gentry had previously pleaded guilty to the charge of first-degree murder on December 13, 2024. As part of his sentence, he is eligible for parole consideration only after serving a minimum of twenty (20) years in the Maryland Division of Correction.

The case dates back to May 5, 2024, when the Fruitland Police Department received a distress call from the 200 block of Sandcastle Boulevard. Responders discovered an unresponsive individual, later identified as Beatrice Gentry, in a bathtub surrounded by a significant amount of blood.

Despite attempts to resuscitate her, the efforts were unsuccessful. An autopsy revealed that her death was a homicide, caused by multiple blunt force injuries along with cutting and stab wounds. Jeremy Gentry, the victim's son, confessed to murdering his mother during the investigation.

SA Jamie L. Dykes expressed gratitude to Senior Trooper Kristi Allen of the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, as well as the dedicated officers of the Fruitland Police Department and the responsive crew from the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company.
