INMATE SETS JAIL CELL ON FIRE AT EASTERN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTE

Somerset County, MD - On October 23, 2024, at approximately 1:42 PM, an inmate housed in Unit 5 (Bravo Tier) at the Eastern Correctional Institute, located at 30420 Revells Neck Road in Westover, Somerset County, Maryland, ignited combustibles within his cell. 

The fire caused 20 inmates to be relocated for a short time due to smoke. ECI medical staff examined those inmates; however, no injuries were reported. The inmates returned to their cells once the smoke had been removed.  

The fire was small, and no fire departments were required to assist with putting it out. ECI Correctional Officers were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

The total loss due to the fire was $15.00 in contents.
