On Thursday, January 30th, Wicomico County and the Delmarva Shorebirds proudly came together for a ceremonial groundbreaking, marking the commencement of an exciting improvement project at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The proposed project aims to bring forth a host of significant enhancements, including the introduction of a new 9,000 sq. ft. indoor performance center. The renovation blueprint also involves the remodeling of the clubhouse and interior spaces, new bullpens, and lighting system upgrades along with other facility-wide improvements.

Wicomico County Executive, Julie Giordano, explained that the project was only made possible due to the robust partnerships formed between Wicomico County, the Shorebirds, the Baltimore Orioles, and the state of Maryland.

The aim of these improvements is to bring the stadium in line with Professional Development League Standards while exceeding the minimum requirements in a number of key areas. The Maryland Stadium Authority has sanctioned a substantial sum of $28.6 million in State funding to advance these renovations.

Expressing his delight about the partnership through state legislation with Wicomico County and the Delmarva Shorebirds, Maryland Stadium Authority Executive Director Mike Frenz highlighted the importance of these investments.

He noted how it would ensure that Arthur W. Perdue Stadium continues to serve its community while promoting economic development and sports tourism opportunities.

The county officials are expecting the current project phase to wrap up by July 31, with further projects being under consideration for the next off-season. Baltimore Orioles' Director of Minor League Operations, Kent Qualls, expressed his high hopes, stating, "I truly think it's going to be one of the top facilities in all of minor league baseball when it's finished later this season."
