FORMER EMPLOYEE OF HARRIS TEETER CHARGED WITH INTERNAL THEFT OF MEDICATIONS
State of Delaware - The Delaware State Police have apprehended a woman suspected of stealing prescription drugs from a local grocery store. The arrest happened following an internal investigation by Harris Teeter Asset Protection Team.
Deanna Chambers, 59, a resident of Georgetown, Delaware, was arrested at her home after being implicated in thefts at the Harris Teeter store where she was employed at the grocery store. The store, located at 31221 Americana Parkway in Selbyville, Delaware, had been experiencing a series of controlled substance thefts for a period of 5 months.
The thefts, occurring from July 2024 to November 2024, were discovered by Harris Teeter's Asset Protection Team. Chambers is believed to have stolen several hundred Tramadol pills, a controlled prescription medication, over this period.
The State Police responded to the report on November 12, 2024, around 1:19 p.m., and in the course of their investigation, they acquired enough evidence to make the arrest. On November 15th, the trooper in charge reached out to Chambers at her residence, apprehending her without any incidents.
Chambers was taken to Troop 4, where she was formally charged with the following:
- Acquire or Attempt to Acquire or Obtain Possession of a Controlled Substance by Theft (Felony)
- Theft Under $1,500
After being arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Chambers was released on a $4,000 unsecured bond.
