FIREFIGHTERS BATTLED RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE IN WESTOVER ON TUESDAY

Westover, MD-On September 3, 2024, firefighters responded to a residential structure fire in the 8900 block of Crisfield Highway, Westover, in Somerset County, Maryland. The incident was reported around 2:40 PM and originated from a two-story, wood-framed, single-family dwelling.

The Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire, which took about an hour and a half to control. Nearby fire departments, including those from Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties, also provided assistance. The incident necessitated the activation of three alarms, calling approximately 40 firefighters to the scene.

One of the dwelling's occupants first discovered the fire, which was traced to the kitchen area on the first floor. Although the preliminary cause remains under investigation, Deputy State Fire Marshals are currently on the scene working meticulously to determine the blaze's root cause.

The fire resulted in two civilians being transported to Tidal Health in Salisbury, the reason being smoke inhalation. However, the conditions are not considered life-threatening.

Additionally, one resident required assistance to exit from the burning home, thankfully aided by a passer-by. Two canines residing in the building could also exit the premises unscathed.

Financial damage estimates resulting from the fire incident are substantial. The structure itself is estimated to have suffered damage worth $150,000.

Additionally, the home's contents, including various antiques, have been estimated to sustain a loss totaling $250,000.
