Westover, MD - A fire broke out at the Eastern Correctional Institution, located at 30420 Revells Neck Rd in Westover, MD, Somerset County, Maryland. The incident occurred on February 3, 2025, at around 1:35 PM.

The fire, which originated from the interior of cell number 1C40, was discovered by the alarm system and the correctional officers on duty.

It resulted in a destruction of various items, including clothing and paperwork that were contained within a cardboard box at the mentioned cell. The fire alarm and sprinkler system, which was active at the time of the fire, greatly assisted in alerting the authorities.

Surprisingly, the estimated loss from the incident is relatively low, with a total of around $1,000. This includes around $500 for the structure and an equivalent amount for the contents.

Although there were no injuries or fatalities resulting from the fire thanks to the cell being unoccupied at the time of the incident, the cell is currently unusable and needs immediate repairs due to the damage caused by the fire.

The fire's cause is still under investigation by the State of Maryland.
