DRUNK DRIVER OPERATING VEHICLE IN THE WRONG LANE, SENDS A TOTAL OF 6 PEOPLE TO LOCAL HOSPITALS

Georgetown, DE - On March 1, 2025, Delaware State Police arrested 25-year-old Juventino Hernandez Montoya of Georgetown, Delaware, following a motor vehicle accident on Sussex Highway. Montoya was driving under the influence of alcohol, leading to a head-on collision with another vehicle, causing injuries to its occupants.


The incident occurred around 9:42 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2025, on Sussex Highway, north of Adams Road.


Authorities were dispatched to the scene of the crash, where they found a Nissan Altima, with Montoya identified as the driver. Troopers reported signs of intoxication, including the smell of alcohol and visible signs of impairment.


Upon investigating, it was found that a 56-year-old woman from Salisbury, Maryland, was driving a Kia Sorento southbound on Sussex Highway, at which time Montoya hit her head-on when he was driving in the wrong lane.


All five occupants of the Kia Sorento, including the driver, were transported to a local hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.


Two passengers in Montoya's vehicle also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. One of those passengers was transported to a local hospital, but the other chose not to seek treatment at the scene.


Following the incident, Montoya was taken into custody and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 5.


Further investigation conducted with Standardized Field Sobriety Tests confirmed his intoxication. Montoya was charged with vehicular assault and driving under the influence, among other charges.


He was later arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and was released on his own recognizance.
