DISCARDED SMOKING MATERIALS IGNITE BED MATRESS IN SALISBURY MARYLAND

In the overnight hours on January 23, 2024 at approximately 3:06 AM, firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of Priscilla Street in Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland, for a reported structure fire.
The Salisbury Fire Department arrived and found the preliminary cause of the fire to be accidental, as a result of discarded smoking materials which ignited a mattress in the bedroom.
The family sustained a loss of approximately $200.00 in contents.
A working smoke detector was installed for the property owner by the Office of the State Fire Marshal's Office and Salisbury Fire Department personnel prior to leaving the property.
