DELONTE BRYANT CONVICTED OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER
Salisbury, MD - On June 28, 2023, after a three-day jury trial presided over by the Honorable S. James Sarbanes, Administrative Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, Delonte Bryant, 29 years of age, of Salisbury, Maryland, was found guilty of Murder First Degree, Use of a Firearm in a Crime of Violence and related offenses stemming from an August 3, 2015, shooting incident.In the late morning hours of August 3, 2015, Bryant approached his victim, 21-year-old Dommeir Deshields, in the roadway at the intersection of Anne Street and Railroad Avenue in Salisbury, Maryland, and shot him multiple times at close range. Mr. Deshields was transported to PRMC, where he was pronounced dead later that day while undergoing surgery for his injuries. The reasons for the crime remain unclear. Bryant was previously convicted in August of 2018. This trial was a retrial of the matter after the Maryland Appellate Court vacated the original jury verdict and ordered a new trial.Wicomico County State's Attorney (SA) Jamie Dykes said, "I am extremely proud of all of our local law enforcement agencies and of my staff at the State's Attorney's Office for their diligent work on the original trial and this retrial of Mr. Bryant. It is extremely difficult to obtain a conviction almost eight years after the fact.
