DELMAR MAN WITH 8 FELONY WARRANTS ELUDES POLICE FOR NEARLY A WEEK BEFORE FINALLY BEING TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
State of Delaware - In a dramatic turn of events that began on February 6, 2024 and ended on February 12, 2024, law enforcement agencies across Delaware apprehended 25-year-old Marc A. Brown from Delmar, Delaware after a series of evasive actions and traffic violations.
Initial reports from the South Bethany Police Department indicate that a 2013 Dodge Avenger, driven by Brown, first evaded a traffic stop on February 6, 2024. The pursuit was cut short due to unsafe speeds and heavy traffic conditions.
The vehicle was later spotted by Bethany Beach Police committing similar offenses, including driving through town property and causing considerable damage. Despite continued attempts to intercept the vehicle, the Dodge Avenger managed to evade capture once again due to high traffic volumes and the driver's reckless behavior.
Information later revealed that the vehicle had been sold a week earlier to an unidentified black male in Harrington, DE, through a digital payment app. Footage from a Ring Door Cam of the suspect on the day of the vehicle purchase was shared among the local law enforcement agencies.
Another pursuit with Brown took place on February 7th, when the vehicle once again fled the South Bethany Police after committing several traffic violations. The vehicle was again located in Bethany Beach, causing more damage to town property. However, police had no success in detaining the suspect, despite their best efforts.
A breakthrough arrived on February 12th when Sgt. Elliott, while on patrol, located the vehicle in the 500 block of Hudson Ave, parked amidst thick shrubbery. Sgt. Elliott spotted a subject resembling the person from the Ring Camera footage, who quickly entered the Dodge Avenger and sped away.
In a coordinated response, local police departments pursued the suspect's car, reaching speeds of over 100 MPH along State Road 26. However, officers terminated the chase considering public safety and heavy traffic conditions.
Ocean View Police Department managed to locate the fleeing vehicle once again, but the driver refused to stop. Eventually, a tire deflation device was deployed by the Dagsboro Police Department and was successful in disabling the Dodge Avenger, allowing the Delaware State Police and Ocean View Police Department to successfully arrest the suspect, Marc Brown.
Further investigation showed that Brown, the arrested suspected, had eight outstanding felony warrants from the Sussex County Superior Court and one warrant from the Department of Corrections. With these charges, alongside the numerous traffic violations, Brown faces legal action from multiple jurisdictions following this week-long police ordeal.
