DELAWARE STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL BICYCLIST CRASH

Lewes, Delaware - A tragic incident occurred yesterday in Lewes involving a fatal crash with a 68-year-old bicyclist, which is now under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
The crash took place at approximately 12:57 p.m. on March 11, 2025. A Hino ST box truck was traveling north on Venables Drive, approaching Senators Drive in Lewes, DE. At the same time, the bicyclist was riding parallel to Venables Drive on a dedicated bike path, approaching the same intersection.
The accident happened when the box truck made an eastbound turn onto Senators Drive just as the bicyclist entered the roadway. Despite attempts to avoid a collision, the bicyclist struck the right rear of the truck.
The bicyclist, a resident of Milton, Delaware, was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he sadly passed away. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family.
In contrast, the 26-year-old driver of the Hino box truck from Wilmington, Delaware, and his 27-year-old passenger from New Castle, Delaware, were unharmed in the incident.
The crash resulted in a temporary two-hour road closure as investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.
The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively conducting an investigation into this incident. They are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to report any information to Sergeant A. Mitchell at 302-703-3269.
