DELAWARE STATE POLICE ARREST MAN FOR HIS 7TH DUI OFFENSE FOLLOWING CRASH IN GEORGETOWN

Georgetown, DE - Delaware State Police have arrested Luis Rivera, a 52-year-old man, following a single-vehicle accident early Monday morning. This arrest marks Rivera's seventh DUI offense, in addition to several other traffic-related offenses.
The incident occurred on February 17, 2025, around 12:39 a.m. Delaware State Troopers were called to the scene of a crash on Bay Road, near Milford Neck Road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a Ford F-250 with significant damage and deployed airbags. An initial investigation revealed that the truck was traveling northbound on Bay Road when it veered off the road and entered a yard. The vehicle then struck an electrical box, a mailbox, and a large tree before coming to a stop.
State Troopers approached the driver, identified as Luis Rivera, who remained inside the vehicle. During the interaction, Rivera showed clear signs of impairment.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Rivera was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
At the hospital, troopers detected the smell of alcohol on Rivera. Following a series of standardized field sobriety tests, suspicions of impairment were confirmed.
A subsequent computer search revealed that this was not Rivera's first encounter with law enforcement regarding DUI offenses; he had six prior DUI convictions.
Additionally, a search of his vehicle uncovered an empty alcohol bottle. After receiving medical attention, Rivera was taken to Troop 4.
He was charged with the mentioned offenses below and was brought before the Justice of the Peace Court 7. Rivera is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $13,001 cash bond.
