Sussex County, DE - As winter approaches, bringing the promise of snow, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is reminding all residents and visitors that the state's beautiful sand dunes are off-limits for sledding, snowboarding, and other winter recreational activities.

These dunes, located in the coastal areas of Cape Henlopen State Park and Delaware Seashore State Park, play a critical role in preserving the local ecosystem and protecting nearby communities.

Not only are the dunes breathtakingly beautiful, but they also serve as vital wildlife habitats and protective barriers for the beaches and surrounding areas. While the pristine, snow-covered dunes might be tempting, it is essential for everyone to respect and stay off these natural wonders.

In addition to reinforcing the no-sledding policy, the DNREC Division of Parks and Recreation emphasizes that pedestrian traffic is only allowed at marked crossings in Cape Henlopen and Delaware Seashore state parks.

Recreational activities on the dunes are strictly prohibited, except in designated areas. By helping to protect these dunes, we can all make a positive impact on our environment. So, as the snow falls, let's remember to stay off the dunes and enjoy the winter season responsibly!
