CITY OF SALISBURY ANNOUNCES FREE ON-STREET PARKING
Wicomico County, Maryland - Starting November 4th, downtown Salisbury will offer over 250 spaces of free on-street parking. This initiative aims to improve accessibility for those conducting business and visiting the downtown area.
This change represents a shift in the city's downtown parking philosophy, and it couldn't have come at a better time, right before the bustling holiday shopping season. The new parking model, which includes a 2-hour limit during business hours, is designed to ensure that parking spaces are always available. This straightforward approach aims to make the parking experience more convenient, thereby enticing more visitors to the thriving downtown district.
To enforce this new policy, the city is currently in the process of removing or covering parking kiosks in the area. As a reminder, all parking will continue to be free during evenings (after 4 p.m.) and all day on weekends and holidays.
Allen Swiger, Director of the Arts, Business, and Culture Department, said, "Free on-street parking in downtown is more than just about convenience; it's also a significant factor for boosting our local businesses' economic vitality. Especially those that rely on foot traffic. So, during this holiday season, we encourage everyone to support our local businesses."
The city is also on its way to rolling out new parking management software, and further updates will be provided soon.
