CHRISTMAS EVE FIRE IN DELMAR RULED ACCIDENTAL DUE TO DISCARDED SMOLDERING PAPER

Wicomico County, MD - On December 24, 2024, at approximately 3:04 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire in the 9000 block of Executive Club Drive in Delmar, Wicomico County, Maryland. The building involved was a two-story, wood-framed townhome located in a residential neighborhood.


The primary responding unit, the Delmar Fire Department, reported that the fire was under control within 10 minutes. A total of fifteen firefighters were on the scene to manage the situation. The home's alarm system was operational and activated, alerting the occupant to the fire, who then notified the fire department.


Upon investigation, it was determined that the fire originated in a trash can in the attached garage, caused by a discarded piece of smoldering paper. The fire was classified as accidental.


Fortunately, the fire was contained quickly, resulting in minimal damage. The estimated loss is reported to be $1,000 for the structure and $500 for its contents. No injuries were reported from the incident.
