Cambridge, MD-Local firefighters responded to the 1300 block of Stone Boundary Road on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at approximately 5:10 AM, for a residential structure fire. The 1,400-square-foot home was seriously damaged by the fire, causing an estimated loss of $100,000.

The Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene and was assisted by 26 firefighters for the one-alarm fire. Despite their swift reaction, the fire took approximately 40 minutes to control due to its extensive spread within the home.

Discovered by an occupant, the fire appeared in the living room. Preliminary investigations suggest the cause was accidental, the result of open flames or smoking materials being left too close to combustible materials.

While this harrowing incident has considerably impacted the residents involved, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures. Prevention is critical, especially in homes. The value of operational smoke alarms in early fire detection must be considered, potentially averting such disasters.

Residents are urged to review their fire safety precautions at home, ensuring smoke alarms are fitted and working correctly. That care is taken not to leave potential sources of fire unattended.
