CAMBRIDGE POLICE INITIATIVE HARNESSES TRAFFIC REGULATIONS FOR SAFER STREETS

Cambridge, MD-On September 6, 2024, citizens of Cambridge, Maryland, witnessed streets intensified with police presence from the evening into midnight hour as the Cambridge Police Department spearheaded a Proactive Initiative involving various divisions, such as the Proactive Community Engagement Team (PACE), Patrol Division, K9 Units, and Bicycle Units.


This initiative targeted traffic enforcement aspects, emphasizing bicycle and scooter violations. A noticeable increase in police presence was strategized to counteract criminal activities and provide a safer environment for the local community.


The primary objective of this strategy was to interact with drivers, cyclists, and scooter operators culpable of traffic offenses and provide them with essential instructions regarding appropriate traffic regulations. This process aids in carving a safer pathway for all citizens utilizing Cambridge roadways.


The Cambridge Police Department's latest initiative reports significant enforcement statistics, including 60 traffic stops involving 16 bicycles and 3 scooters.


In addition, the department's efforts resulted in 76 traffic warnings, 7 traffic citations, 1 DUI arrest, and 1 felony warrant arrest. The initiative also included 1 foot patrol, 1 K9 sniff, 1 criminal arrest for a handgun violation, and 1 firearm seizure.
