CAMBRIDGE POLICE ARREST A JUVENILE AND SEIZE A HANDGUN FOLLOWING FOOT PURSUIT
CAMBRIDGE, MD - On February 19, 2024, quick action by the Cambridge Police led to the arrest of two young males and the recovery of a loaded firearm in the area of Greenwood Ave and Camelia St in Cambridge, MD.
At about 4:28 p.m., police officers on foot patrol noticed an operator of a vehicle unrestrained by a seatbelt.
Other officers in a patrol vehicle were directed to pull over the car for the traffic violation.
As the officers stopped the vehicle on Cosby Ave and Leonards Ln, the front-seat passenger quickly exited and attempted to escape on foot.
Cambridge officers chased the fleeing passenger, providing descriptions and updates to foot patrol officers in the area.
During the chase, the officers observed that the individual seemed to be concealing a gun in his clothing.
The subject was apprehended in the 500 block of Greenwood Ave, and police recovered a loaded Glock-19 9mm handgun fitted with a laser/flashlight attachment.
The passenger was identified as a 16-year-old male from Cambridge, MD.
He was taken to the Cambridge Police Department for processing, referred to the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS), and subsequently released to a parent/guardian.
Police discovered that the stopped vehicle had switched registration plates, and the driver was only in possession of a learner's permit.
The driver, a 17-year-old male also from Cambridge, MD, was released from the scene and referred to DJS on traffic charges.
Both cases highlight the ongoing police commitment to maintain the safety and security of the Cambridge community.
The 16-year-old was charged with the following:
- Loaded Handgun on Person
- Handgun on Person
- Handgun in Vehicle
- Loaded Handgun in Vehicle
- Possession of Firearm / Minor
The 17-year-old juvenile was charged with the following:
- Holder of Learners Permit Driving Without Required Supervision
- Holder of Learners Permit Driving with an Un-Authorized Person Occupying the Front Seat
- Unauthorized Display and Use of Registration Plates
- Displaying Registration Plates Issued to Other Vehicle
- Fail to Display Registration Card on Demand
