CAMBRIDGE MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AFTER TRYING TO ELUDE POLICE ON A SCOOTER
CAMBRIDGE, MD - On February 20, 2024, officers from the Cambridge Police Department apprehended a local man following a failed attempt at evading law enforcement.
The event unfolded around 5:27 pm on Greenwood Ave in Cambridge, Maryland when the police attempted a traffic stop on a scooter operator due to traffic violations.
The man, later identified as 34-year-old Roe'Quon Jamar Newton of Cambridge, MD, tried to escape the authorities, first on his scooter and then on foot, before being arrested in the 700 block of Weaver Ave.
Officials report that during the pursuit, Newton appeared to be reaching into a satchel-style bag.
In the aftermath, officers located multiple bags of Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) in the path of Newton's attempted escape.
The seized items include an estimated 28 grams of Cocaine, another bag with about 14 grams of Crack Cocaine, and a third bag containing a quantity of Psilocybin Mushrooms. In addition, a sum of United States Currency (USC) was also found in Newton's possession.
Following the incident, Newton was delivered to the Cambridge Police Department for processing and subsequently presented before a Court Commissioner.

- Failure to Drive Right of Center
- Attempt by Driver to Elude Uniformed Police by Failing to Stop
- Attempt by Driver to Elude Uniformed Police by Other Means
- Attempt by Driver to Elude Police in Official Police Vehicle by Fleeing on Foot
- Attempt by Driver to Elude Police in Official Police Vehicle by Other Means
- Attempt by Driver to Elude Police in Official Police Vehicle by Failing to Stop
- Attempt by Driver to Elude Uniformed Police by Fleeing on Foot
- Disorderly Conduct
- Failure to Obey Lawful Order
- CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotic (2 counts)
- CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute
- CDS Possession Not Cannabis (3 counts)
- CDS Possession Paraphernalia
Newton is now in the custody of the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on No Bond.
