Cambridge, Maryland - Local authorities recently responded to the 100 block of Virginia Avenue for a physical assault.

Cambridge Police responded to a report of physical violence on February 13th, 2024. At approximately 1:08 PM, CPD officers were called to an assault, where the victim had already left the scene and was traced to a nearby McDonald's.

Upon locating the victim, she recounted a frightening account of assault by Jessica Lynn Jarrett, a 38-year-old Cambridge, Maryland resident.

The altercation, according to the victim, sparked off from a verbal spat at their shared residence on Virginia Avenue. The situation escalated when Jarrett demanded the victim leave the premises, turning physical as the victim was gathering their belongings.

Reportedly, Jarrett assaulted the victim by aggressively grabbing the victim's face. An attempt to diffuse the situation failed as Jarrett continued to exert physical dominance, pushing the victim back onto a bed.

The victim attempted to flee the residence but was subsequently put in a chokehold by Jarrett. The victim described a loss of breath, dwindling strength, and the terrifying experience of being pushed down the staircase.

After landing on the floor, the victim claimed, Jarrett kneeled on their back before forcibly removing them from the residence. Officers on the scene observed injuries consistent with the victim's account, lending credibility to the allegations.

Although Jarrett was not immediately found at the scene, officers applied for charges with the Court Commissioner, resulting in the issuance of an arrest warrant. Jarrett was later apprehended, processed at the Cambridge Police Department, and remanded to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections. She is being held without bond pending trial.

Jarrett was charged with the following:

  • Assault 1st Degree

  • Assault 2nd Degree

  • Child Abuse Second Degree Custody

  • Reckless Endangerment
