Somerset County, MD - President Charles Laird of the Somerset County Commissioners has announced a county-wide moratorium on all outdoor burning until further notice. This decision follows consultations with the county's Fire Chiefs, who have raised concerns about the current conditions.

The burn ban is comprehensive and prohibits a wide range of open ignition sources. Campfires, bonfires, fireworks, and any form of burning leaves, brush, grass, or trash are strictly forbidden under this new measure until further notice.

County residents are still allowed to use contained barbecue grills and charcoal grills for cooking, as these methods have been deemed safe under the current conditions.

This moratorium is a temporary measure and will remain in effect until the area receives sufficient rainfall to reduce the risks associated with outdoor burning. While the ban may be inconvenient for some, it is a necessary step to ensure the safety of Somerset County and its residents.

The Somerset County Commissioners and Fire Chiefs kindly request the cooperation and understanding of all residents during this period. They assure the community that they are actively monitoring the situation and will lift the ban as soon as adequate rainfall occurs.
