BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN LAUREL DELAWARE
Laurel, DE-On July 29, 2024, the Laurel Police Department publicly announced that an incident occurred at the Fulton Bank, 30204 Sussex Highway, in Laurel. On July 30, 2024, additional information was released to the public, providing investigative updates. This resulted in an influx of tips and leads provided by the Laurel community and our neighbors to further the investigation. The following is a summary of the case at its conclusion, which resulted in the suspect's arrest.
On July 29, 2024, at approximately 9:28 am, Laurel Police Department units were dispatched to the Fulton Bank regarding a robbery alarm activation. It was soon determined that the suspect had already fled the area, and units secured the scene to conduct an investigation.
The initial investigation revealed that a black male subject had entered the bank and presented a demand note to one of the tellers. After receiving an undisclosed amount of US currency, the suspect fled on foot toward Discount Land Road. Immediately before the robbery, during a canvass of neighboring businesses, officers discovered that the same suspect shoplifted from the Dollar General next door to the bank.
Investigators worked diligently with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to trace leads provided by the community and pursue other investigative measures, leading to the identification of the suspect. The suspect was identified as David Dorvilier (47) of Laurel, DE. A warrant was then obtained for Dorvilier's arrest for the following crime(s):
-Robbery First Degree (Class B Felony)
On July 30, 2024, at approximately 2:38 pm, Dorvilier was taken into custody at his residence in the 600 Block of Pasture Lane, Hollybrook Apartments, in Laurel. During his arrest, he was found to be in possession of cocaine and related drug paraphernalia.
Officers transported Dorvilier to the Laurel Police Department, where he was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $60,000 cash-only bail.
