AMERICAN RED CROSS IS ASSISTING OCCUPANTS OF SUNDAY FIRE IN DELMAR
Wicomico County, MD - A harrowing incident unfolded yesterday in the 400 block of East Pine Street in Delmar, on the Maryland side. A residential structure fire caused significant damage to a wood-framed single-story family home. The fire is believed to have originated from an electrical flaw with an extension cord in a second-floor bedroom.
The home caught fire around 5:53 PM, causing an estimated $15,000 in damage to the structure and $1,500 to its contents. The Delmar Fire Department and surrounding agencies took 15 minutes to get the fire under control, deploying 35 firefighters for one alarm.
One occupant was transported to the hospital as a precaution due to smoke inhalation. The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants due to the damage of the residence.
This incident is an unfortunate reminder to all of us to ensure that our homes are equipped with basic fire safety measures such as smoke detectors.
