ALONZO PARKER, JR., CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR, AND MULTIPLE SEX OFFENSE RELATED CHARGES
Wicomico County, MD - After a three-day trial, a Wicomico County jury found 59-year-old Alonzo Parker, Jr. guilty of sexual abuse of a minor on December 11, 2024, along with several counts of third-degree sexual offense, fourth-degree sexual offense, and second-degree assault.
Parker's sentencing was postponed by the presiding judge, the Honorable Kathleen L. Beckstead, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, until a required pre-sentence investigation and mental health evaluation was completed.
Parker, Jr. was convicted of sexually abusing a child who was in his custody from 1998 to 2002. Parker was able to contact the victim for several years while he had an official position at a nearby church, where the actions took place.
Wicomico County States Attorney Jamie L. Dykes praised the conviction as a significant victory, emphasizing that sexual abusers in Wicomico County will be held accountable regardless of how long it has been since the incident. She also commended the young survivor's courage, saying that her revelation and testimony in court helped bring the defendant's horrible actions to light and guarantee that justice was done.
State's Attorney Dykes praised the work of the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center and the investigation's lead investigator, Sergeant J. Seichepine of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office.
In addition, Dykes acknowledged the efforts of Senior Assistant State's Attorney Michael Calabrese, who fought for justice in this case.
