Eastern Shore Undercover’s Suicide Prevention and Policy

When I first started Eastern Shore Undercover, one of the hot topics was how we would approach suicide.  Suicidal subjects are very near and dear to my heart.  As many of you know, I lost several family members to suicide and therefore, I want to use this platform as a means for suicide prevention and to hopefully prevent others from doing the same.

I want this page to be used as a platform to prevent people from ever considering committing suicide. I have been through countless seminars, meetings and various training in reference to suicide.

One thing I personally feel strongly about is people need to talk. They need to let things out and they need friends.  They need people around them showing them love and support and helping them through the tough times.  That is what Eastern Shore Undercover is for.

When you get upset and send nasty messages because I post an article about someone committing suicide, it does nothing to help the problem.  If we hide these types of posts, we are doing nothing for the mental health community, who need us more than anyone!!!

  • Did you know that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States?
  • Did you know that nearly 50,000 people each year die of suicide?
  • Did you know that 1.4 million people attempt suicide each year in the US?
  • Did you know that 130-135 people each day will commit suicide in the United States?

The bottom line, there is a major mental health issue in this country and people are taking their own lives at alarming rates.  If we do nothing, this will not change, but if we get out and talk about it, maybe…just maybe, we can prevent that next person from making the ultimate decision of taking their own life.

Help is available to you.  The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has plenty of ways to help. You just gotta reach out and ask someone.

And remember, Eastern Shore Undercover’s Social Media pages are ALWAYS open for those who need to talk.  We may not be medical professionals but we probably have more real-life experience than most could ever imagine and we will put you in touch with those who can help you.
