BREAKING NEWS: JOHN WOODLIN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON

On March 11, 2021, The Honorable D. William Simpson, Senior Judge, sentenced John Matthew Woodlin, 51 years of age, formerly of Salisbury, Maryland, to two (2) life sentences on two (2) counts of rape second degree, each with a fifteen (15) year minimum mandatory, and twenty (20) years on his conviction for sex abuse of a minor. 

Judge Simpson ordered that all sentences will run consecutive to each other in the Maryland Division of Corrections. 

John Woodlin was convicted by a Wicomico County jury on November 4, 2020. At the time of his offense, Woodlin was registered as a Tier III sex offender. This was the third time John Woodlin was convicted for sexual offenses.

In this case, Woodlin sexually abused the victim, who was under the age of twelve, in September 2019 in Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland. 

Jamie L. Dykes, State’s Attorney (SA) for Wicomico County, commended the members of Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) for their work in the investigation, specifically thanking Wicomico Sheriff’s Office investigator Sergeant T. Funk, assigned to the CAC. 

SA Dykes also commended Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Diane Karsnitz, who prosecuted this case. SA Dykes reflected, “Justice was done in Mr. Woodlin’s case. The State is grateful for the jury’s consideration and verdict, Judge Simpson’s sentence and the incredible work of our Child Advocacy Center.”
